See the New Digital Projections for Opera SB’s Madama Butterfly

Opera Santa Barbara’s 2019/20 Season opener, Madama Butterfly, will be the third production in the company’s 26-year history. Giacomo Puccini’s classic is one of the world’s most beloved operas. It is also often produced and as recently as 2013 was the 6th most performed opera in the world.

This year, the story of a tragic geisha caught between clashing cultures will be a little different. A new production for Opera SB, the show will introduce new digital projections designed by Daniel Chapman specifically for this show and complemented with lighting design by Azra King-Abadi. Digital projections are a way many productions both in and outside of opera help to build and create atmosphere to their worlds onstage.  The art they make through digital projection helps tell and enhance the story. We’re excited to have them for our our 2019/20 Season so don’t miss any of our operas this year!
