Born in Valencia, Spain, and recently appointed Music Director of Florida Grand Opera, Ramón Tebar becomes the first Spanish conductor to lead a major American Opera Company. He also serves as Music Director of the Palm Beach Symphony. Since his arrival in the US, he has been part of the music staff of the Palm Beach and Cincinnati Operas, working on more than 30 opera productions while maintaining a full schedule in Europe. Maestro Tebar’s upcoming season includes Renata Scotto’s productions of La bohème, La traviata, and La sonnambula at Florida Grand Opera; Madama Butterfly at Cincinnati Opera, and Carmen at Opera Colorado (company debut). He will also conduct concerts with the Palm Beach Symphony, San Antonio Symphony (debut), and the Orquesta Sinfonica Nacional in Santo Domingo (alongside violinist Joshua Bell and soprano Maria Guleghina). Ramón Tebar began his conducting career at age fifteen, first as a pianist and then assistant conductor of the Youth National Orchestra of Spain. He has won many awards, including the Bärenreiter Prize, Medaille d´Honneur “Villa de Claira” (France) and an Award in the III International Conducting Competition “Luigi Mancinelli” (Italy). He was recently honored with the 2010 Henry C. Clark Conductor of the Year Award by Florida Grand Opera.
