About the 20|21 Season
Sexy. Sassy. Smart: The women of Opera Santa Barbara’s 20|21 season.
A celebrity courtesan gives up her life of splendor for true love in Giuseppe Verdi’s timeless drama La Traviata. Anya Matanovic stars in a production that turns back the clock to the roaring 1920s, featuring dancers from State Street Ballet. Tara Faircloth directs, and Artistic and General Director Kostis Protopapas conducts.
Four sisters discover their destinies through love and loss, in Mark Adamo’s contemporary American classic Little Women. Louisa May Alcott’s beloved coming-of-age epic gets the operatic treatment. Director Alison Moritz and conductor Emily Senturia lead a dazzling cast of rising stars, headlined by former Opera SB Studio Artists Ashley Armstrong, Evan Bravos, and Rachel Blaustein.
A tomboy raised among soldiers takes high society by storm, in Donizetti’s frothy romantic comedy The Daughter of the Regiment. Santa Barbara-born soprano Jana McIntyre makes her home company debut, and tenor Isaac Frischman sings the famous aria with nine high C’s. Comedy master/choreographer Kyle Lang directs a new production of this delightful OSB premiere, with Maestro Protopapas on the podium.
