Baron Scarpia:

Luis Ledesma

Opera News notes that in the role of the villainous Baron Scarpia, Luis Ledesma "commands the stage with his rich, well-controlled baritone. He is convincingly devious; when this Scarpia looks at his Tosca, he conquers the diva with his eyes." Born in Mexico City, and now a U.S. citizen, Ledesma has been lauded internationally for the power and refinement of both his vocal and theatrical gifts. A graduate of the resident program at Philadelphia's Academy of Vocal Arts, Ledesma went on to win several major competitions, including the Pavarotti International Voice Competition and the Julian Gayarre Competition in Spain. He has performed leading roles with major companies around the world, including those in Barcelona, Buenos Aires, Mexico City, Santiago, Dresden, Graz, Lisbon, Savonlinna, and at Milan's Teatro alla Scala. This season, Ledesma performs the title role in Verdi's Macbeth with Palm Beach Opera, Scarpia in Tosca with Atlanta Opera, and Marcello in La bohème with Opera de Bellas Artes in Mexico.
