A position for an individual who is interested in a career in marketing and content management, and possesses creative, technical, and organizational skills to lead marketing campaigns for Opera Santa Barbara. 

The Director of Marketing will have a strong focus on learning Opera Santa Barbara’s marketing and digital content strategies and procedures while providing new insights and processes  for an ambitious non-profit organization that produces professional live performances featuring nationally recognized performing and creative artists. The position will directly supervise and manage the Digital Media and Communications Manager. This role is a key part of our highly-motivated, growth-mindset team, which encourages initiative and creative thinking. 

Social Media, Digital Content, and Website information: Coordinate and oversee OSB’s social media platforms and content in accordance with the organization’s overall vision with an objective of growth and individual departments’ communication needs

    1. Oversees the brand’s voice and aesthetic for social media and digital content. Manages Digital Media and Communications Manager in the creation, execution and distribution of social media and digital content.
    2. Work with Team OSB in creating, producing, and sharing digital content (blog posts/articles, interviews, video/wrap-around content).
    3. Manages overall maintenance of and content on OSB website. 
    4. Reports to the General Director with website performance, metrics, and analytics. 

Marketing Campaigns and Strategy: Assist in planning and executing marketing campaigns for mainstage events to optimize ticket sales

    1. Help develop advertising budgets for print and digital across a variety of platforms and interface with publication contacts in setting up schedule and ad spend.
    2. Create and send out press releases to media outlets and publish events on city-wide calendars.
    3. Seek opportunities for cross-promotions among other arts and non-profit organizations.
    4. Track and modify digital spend for Google Adwords campaigns and social media. Gather data on promotional performance and impact.
    5. Curate and pitch events/previews  to print publications, establish relationships with reviewers, ensure requested comp tickets, thank-yous for reviews, and permissions to quote.

Produce Marketing Material – Create and coordinate effective marketing collateral

    1. Design and create digital advertising collateral for social media, newsletter, email, website, etc. Work with Team OSB on photoshoot, event branding and overall aesthetic. 
    2. Manage print campaigns for all productions and events. Design and create print advertising including ads for various local publications, postcards, posters, etc. Coordinate mailing address lists and maintain relationships with other orgs .
    3. Responsible for content (including advertising and in-kind ads), printing and distribution of programs for each opera.
    4. Support other OSB departments in creating communications or promotional materials that can be both free and ticketed events. 
    5. Familiarity with Photoshop or Canva is beneficial. 

Patron Communications – Maintain regular communication with patrons with both sales and non-sales content

Create and execute a messaging timeline/calendar for ticketed events and other major programming. 

    1. Support other departments in their communication and promotional needs like the CSA program, Community and Engagement events, Development department communications, etc. 
    2. Responsible for overall editorial content, monthly newsletter creation and send out in a timely manner.
    3. Create email blasts for non ticketed events like special events, digital concerts, community programs, offers, etc. 
    4. Track and clean up email lists and execute best practices for healthy list growth.
    5. Create post performance surveys and track responses.

Vendor and Agency relationships  – Work with outside vendors and agencies in regards to any strategies, digital best practices, printing and design needs, etc.

    1. Maintain relationships with vendors who support collateral creation including printing companies, designers, and local businesses who help to cross-promote OSB.
    2. When working with agencies or other companies, incorporate best practices in regards to advertising, sales strategies, social media, etc. This includes Google Adwords consultants, ticketing data consultants, social media marketers.


  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience
  • 2-3 years related work experience in a related field
  • Strong written? & verbal communication skills
  • Content organization and management skills
  • Must be efficient, work quickly and love generating ideas and putting them into action.
  • Proficiency in digital design programs such as: Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, Canva

Community Engagement & Education Manager 

Job Title: Community Engagement & Education Manager
Department: Community Engagement & Education

Classification: Half-time, Exempt
Employment Status: W2 Employee


  • Coordinate and oversee all of OSB’s Community Engagement & Education initiatives in accordance with the organization’s overall vision 
  • Develop and implement community engagement strategies and metrics with an objective of growth 
  • Manage Community Engagement budget 
  • Supervise any relevant staff and/or volunteers 
  • Ensure that community engagement activities are aligned with the organization’s overall goals and priorities 
  • Oversee Santa Barbara Youth Opera recruitment and activities



  • Oversee company community engagement initiatives including but not limited to production specific partnerships, Operation Eurydice, & Operacurious
  • Develop and maintain a network of relationships that will result in substantial access to community centers, enrichment programs, and schools, with emphasis on underserved or low-income communities 
  • Work with teachers and principals to organize student attendance at Final Dress rehearsals, Student Matinees, and other student-focused programs
  • Schedule and oversee OSB’s in-school Opera Lab Program, summer camps,  and equivalent programs
  • Coordinate the activities of the SB Youth Opera 
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with teachers and school principals 
  • Develop and propose new education and community engagement programs 
  • Research and pursue funding for relevant programming
  • Serve as spokesperson for OSB as assigned
