The Chrisman Studio Artist Spring Showcase will feature three distinct solo performances highlighting the artistry of OSB’s resident artists with Principal Pianist Timothy Accurso on piano. Tenor Matthew Greenblatt presents a rare performance of Charles Gounod’s Italian song cycle Biondina, evoking the Italian music of the composer’s young days in Rome, directed by Lillian Groag. Mezzo-soprano Max Potter performs the beautiful and haunting love songs from Hector Berlioz’s song cycle Les nuits d’été, directed by Sara E. Widzer. And soprano Brooklyn Snow will perform Jake Heggie and Terrence McNally’s witty and nostalgic musical scene At the Statue of Venus directed by Layna Chianakas.
Today, we spotlight soprano Brooklyn Snow, who will be performing At the Statue of Venus directed by Layna Chianakas. At the Statue of Venus is a musical scene written for soprano and piano by American composer Jake Heggie. The libretto is written by Terrence McNally and was commissioned by Opera Colorado to celebrate the grand opening of the Ellie Caulkins Opera House in 2005. At the Statue of Venus centers on a woman at a museum, nervously waiting by the statue of Venus for a blind date.
A native of Beaverton, Oregon, Soprano Brooklyn Snow is a rising international artist with extensive performance experience in both Europe and the United States. This past spring, Ms. Snow sang her first Adina in L’elisir d’amore with Opera Bend, and in June 2021 will reprise the role with The Southern Illinois Music Festival. In August she will tour as a featured soprano soloist with the New Philharmonic Orchestra’s outdoor summer concert series with her husband, tenor, Matthew Greenblatt.
