OSB Celebrates Black History Month in Song

On Friday, February 26 at 7PM (PT) join us for a special digital concert, Opera Santa Barbara Celebrates Black History Month in Song. We have invited OSB Studio Artist alumni and some of OSB’s favorite performers to sing pieces curated in part by African-American tenor, educator, and 17|18 Chrisman Studio Artist alum, Jonathan Walker-VanKuren.

Our eleven diverse singers have come together for this virtual concert to celebrate Black composers and artists. We hope to highlight the significance of Black contributions to the classical music genre and use this opportunity to showcase some of the emerging and established Black voices of opera. The concert will be available on Facebook, Youtube, and the OSB website for on-demand viewing after the initial premiere.

We’d like to thank Principal Pianist Tim Accurso and the following singers:

Ashley Kay Armstrong
Chelsea Melamed Cushman
Nathan Granner
Yazid Gray
Kelly Guerra
Byron Mayes
Julia Metzler
Jessica Gonzalez Rodriguez
Kevin Thompson
Jonathan Walker-Van Kuren
Audrey Yoder

The concert is made possible through Opera Santa Barbara’s Performing Artists Fund, which is generously supported by the John C. Mithun Foundation.
