Opera SB To Offer Free Transportation to Il Postino for North County

In a pilot program to make opera more accessible to North County residents, Opera SB will be offering free bus transportation for residents to the Sunday Matinee performance of its first opera sung in Spanish, Mexican-American composer Daniel Catán’s Il Postino (The Postman) on Sunday, March 8, 2020 at 2:30pm at the Lobero Theatre.

As part of Opera SB’s ongoing commitment to civic practice and creating more opportunities for Santa Barbara and its surrounding communities to experience opera, removing practical barriers like financial constraints and venue transportation has been a top priority this season.

“With a dedicated opera fan base in communities like Santa Maria and Solvang for the company’s ongoing series of Free Noontime Concerts, creating easier access to attend the live, mainstage productions was a natural next step for Opera SB,” noted Kostis Protopapas, Artistic and General Director of Opera SB.

Thanks to new funding support from a Santa Barbara County Arts Commission Arts Making Impact grant, bus transportation will be available for the matinee performance on Sunday, March 8 with pick-up/drop-off from two locations:

  • Santa Maria Public Library, 421 S McClelland St, Santa Maria, CA 93454
  • 12:00 PM Pick-up – 7:00 PM Drop-off
  • Wildling Museum, 1551-B Mission Dr, Solvang, CA 93463
  • 12:45 PM Pick-up – 6:15 PM Drop-off

A limited number of community access tickets are available for individuals who qualify. For more information and to reserve a spot on the bus, please contact Lex Benes, Education and Community Engagement Manager, at [email protected] or (805) 898-3890.

Bus transportation will include a recorded pre-opera talk. Opera tickets to Il Postino (The Postman) must be purchased separately. Purchase tickets at the Lobero Theatre.
